Ahead of IBC 2024: Cerberus Cofounder Chris Clarke on Pioneering Resilient Media Delivery Solutions
How do you anticipate the trends and developments in broadcasting technology influencing the industry in the next few years?
The industry’s focus on cloud and IP adoption will continue to grow, with operational, economic, and environmental factors driving increased interest in scalable, on-demand workflows in the cloud. Using this model to spin entire workflows up and down as needed, broadcasters and other media organizations can reduce unnecessary resource usage while enhancing their flexibility and cost efficiency. The Cerberus Tech provision for cloud-based processing and transport isn't unique in enabling these benefits, but our utilization of third-party best-in-class integrations and other technology solutions allows us to offer uniquely comprehensive and agile cloud workflows that operate as if on-premises. As a result, users can manage, process, monitor, and deliver video streams from within a single cohesive platform. Our Livelink provisioning and orchestration platform for live cloud video transport and processing workflows makes all these capabilities available on an on-demand, pay-as-you-go basis.
In what ways do you believe your products can address the evolving needs of broadcasters and content creators?
With the Livelink self-serve platform for live cloud video transport and processing, we take all the legwork out of deploying other companies’ software and toolsets, crafting them into a platform with a unified look and feel. As a result, users can deploy an entire broadcast chain in AWS, for example, and a backup of it in the Google Cloud platform, while working in one platform that simplifies operation and management. One specific challenge we’ve addressed with a recent enhancement of our Livelink platform is the need for scalable, readily accessible motion-compensated frame-rate conversion, a must for live sports and other fast-paced events. Within the Livelink platform, this critical capability makes it easier and more cost-effective to prepare and deliver high-quality live content to audiences worldwide. Support for state-of-the-art monitoring workflows is another recent addition to Livelink, addressing the need for flexible monitoring of the many feeds being distributed for live broadcast and OTT services.
How does your company approach sustainability and environmental responsibility in the design and manufacturing of your products?
Live video processing and transport workflows deployed through Livelink or Cerberus Tech managed services inherently offer the sustainability benefits enabled by cloud. Rather than maintain always-on infrastructure on premises, Cerberus Tech customers can scale their resources according to their needs, which means they can shut down or resize environments when they’re not in use, thereby reducing unnecessary energy consumption. Designed to be transparent, the Livelink platform offers a dashboard showing users exactly what they’re using and spending, which not only encourages mindful resource usage but also simplifies the process of assessing their organization’s overall carbon footprint.
